First MC UK / English edit of the magazine finally here!
Finally after ten years of promising here's our first English edit! A small introduction to the mag in the foreword we wrote:
At the start of writing this foreword to the long awaited English edit of our magazine, we have just learned about the last French stronghold Media Carpe calling it quits... Yet another of the big European names sadly down the drain, foreboding the further demise of print media, and dare we say, the written word. Who could have thought that when we came up with the idea for Monkey Climber in 2010? Totally unplanned that was, for those of you who don't know, as our first Flemish/Dutch written issue ever was started just for fun as a mere birthday present for a then very young 29 year old me, lol. Fifteen years later now our journey has become a dream really, with support for what we do coming from all corners of the world. There's still many a moment that me and the wife have to pinch ourselves if all of this really is happening. As you must know, we always ran this thing of our own next to our normal day jobs and from the basement and kitchen as we always like to say, until recently. It must also be a decade since I first mentioned the possibility of an English issue, up until the point where no one thought it would ever be happening. With one of the first iPads in hand, I can still remember translating snippets from our first numbers then, while guesting a local nature reserve in the dunes. Catching forgotten carp at the back of the beach, the rolling waves of the sea in the background. Unforgettable times! Without wanting to touch the original style and 100 pages format of the mags we do in our own language, we have now put a handful of those translated interviews (one with THE English and one with THE Belgian GOAT) and other features into this first File 01. At times, we have been really lost in translation, but with the help of some English proofers we finally got there. Big ups to you! Some terminology and grammar may still give an over the water feel, but that was our intention. From the bottom of our hearts, we hope that this issue puts a smile on your faces while reading, but above all also inspires, bewilders and amazes. Print still is not dead. Fuck your likes and views. Gio
