We are delighted that we finally have stock of our friend Phil Lowry's book-ette zine The Brook, about the Conningbrook heydays. Small print run only, sold out in the UK now, and we have the final 100 pieces for distribution on the Continent. Fantastic read and mega in any collection!
The ‘Brook, the book this isn’t a guide to Conningbrook, “tips and techniques”, it’s a moment, documentary collection of 90’s and early 2000’s era photos of special times at one of the UK’s most prominent open access venues. Conningbrook, celebrated in texts by Lee Jackson, Oz Holness, Paul Forward, Terry Hearn, Dave Lane and many others, deserved its legendary status in the upper echelons of carp fishing annals.
This is 100 or so pages, 400gsm cover and 120gsm bond paper, full colour, printed in England, A5 format.
The ‘Brook is a contemporary styled book-ette, “Zine”, of 100+ Pages of photos, memories and occasions that all occurred at the famous Kent fishery, Conningbrook, from 1992 to 2004.
From what was originally conceived as a personal project to create something shareable for all those guys I shared Conningbrook with, however, such was the interest in these unseen pics, so many asking for copies, I’ve changed the process to a pre-order so I can better gauge interest and make sure, I hope that everyone who’s keen, gets a copy.
I am sure many of you have read books by legends of the game, like Lee Jackson, Oz Holness, Paul Forward, Terry Hearn, Dave Lane and many others, often with chapters that reference or embrace Conningbrook. It certainly deserved its legendary status in the upper echelons of carp fishing annals. I hope, if you’re into the old school carp fishing scene, then this is one to have in your collection.
So what’s the story with this book?
Over lockdowns, I’d rediscovered my film cameras, messing around over these testing Covid times, which inevitably meant more toys, especially a new high-res scanner. Messing about, I’d scan a few pics from that time, and send the pics to a few friends. Soon followed requests from friends, both from the ‘Brook days and fellow carp anglers and importantly, members of the Facebook Group, “Old Skool Carp Angling”, to see more of what I had saved from that time.
This is 100 or so pages, 400gsm matt laminated cover and 120gsm bond paper, full colour, printed in England, A5 collection of 90’s and early 2000’s era photos of special times at one of the UK’s most prominent open access venues.
Feedback?
Feedback from friends, Jon Pack and Mark Smith, both captors of the legendary “Two-Tone”, went on to be successful regulars during my time on the ‘Brook, as well as the amazing Gio Vanhooren, of Monkey Climber in Belgium.
Jon says, “Had a good look through, mate and it’s pukka “, Ok, that’s a tick in the box. “Yes was good mate, not sure about the pics of me but that’s just because I don’t like pics of myself !! lol“.
Mark says of the book, whilst nagging me to just get it printed, ” Just had a little peep at the draft copy and put a lump in my throat. Loving looking through the pics you put in, mate. Very good text ”
Gio Vanhooren, of the amazing Monkey Climber, “Love it. Just flicked through the drafts. Oh my, I know what work that must have gone into it”
Encompassing a series/collection of photos, all on film, all from the ’90s and early 2000s – includes photos of British records, b-roll pics and many memorable moments, inc British Record capture. The pics are slides from the 1990s, mainly on Fuji Provia 100f. This isn’t a guide to Conningbrook, “tips and techniques”, just a moment, documentary of a time and place.
Please Note!
Please remember this is a solo published project. My first ever large-scale print production run of ~500 copies.
