This week we learned that Terry Eustace, one of the English pioneers with a brand of the same name, has passed away. He may be less well known in the Benelux, especially in these times, but over the years we have seen some of his rods here in our region, and we ourselves were only too happy to use his Pro Clear, by far the best low-diameter nylon for long-distance casting. We borrowed this Facebook post from another friend who has also passed away, Chris Ball, to honour Terry. Rest in power!

Op Nieuwkappelle put, een prachtige watervlak van 8ha nabij Diksmuide dat lange tijd als 'niemandsland' gold (in de zin dat niemand van instanties zich er ook maar iets van aantrok, we hebben zelfs VBK medebeheer geprobeerd destijds) & een van de weinige putten in de regio, komen binnenkort zonnepanelen. Met man en macht proberen vissers, wandelaars en natuurliefhebbers dit nu tegen te houden, onder andere met petities. Teken ze hier, ook al denkt u 'niet mijn regio, niet mijn probleem'. De Watergroep, eigenaar van het water, heeft al aangekondigd dat dit een proefproject is om later verder over het land uit...

Wijsheid of waanzin? Vissen betekent aas maken en aas maken betekent vissen. Natuurlijk is het niet altijd zo eenvoudig, maar het een kan bij mij niet zonder het ander. Evenmin is het altijd een pretje, want wakker worden op een visafslag staat ook weleens tegen (zelfs als alleenstaande verkarperde) en er zijn ook momenten waarop ik helemaal geen zin heb in heel dat gesodemieter, maar ik doe het toch en telkens wanneer het laatste kooksel dan weer ligt te dampen onder de ventilator, hoor ik het in de verte al zachtjes een beetje fluiten. Dan is het al goed, want...

Unlike in the UK where every snippet of carp history is recorded, thanks to people like Tim Paisley, Kevin Clifford and the late Chris Ball, it's different over here in Europe. In our magazine we spent some features on German and Swedish history, in Belgium the VBK documented a lot, we believe the KSN organisation did a few bits on the Netherlands and there's also a few French fishing journalists we speak to regularly. But all in all there's no general books or anything per country or dealing with European carp history, which is very rich as well and goes...
